Paros is the third largest island of the Cyclades and lies to the west of Naxos, from which it is separated by narrow channel width of about 3 miles, while from Piraeus is 90 nautical miles.
The coasts of the island, some of which form beautiful beaches (mostly on the east side ) and natural harbors and others are steep and rocky , more dismembered on the north side.
The ancient quarries of Paros are in place " Marathi " located about 5 km from the capital Parikia. The quarries are known from high quality white marble, the " Parian stone " from the marble was built famous sculptures such as the Venus de Milo, the Hermes of Praxiteles and the Nike of Samothrace.
