Schinousa

Schinousa is a Cycladic island in the Aegean Sea. The island's capital is Schinousa . The island has been inhabited since ancient times. According to tradition, the name of the bushy plant schino throughout the island . But there is another tradition according to which the island was named after the Venetian nobleman Schinoza .

Schinousa has two villages , Chora and Firostefani . The settlement of the country is built on a hill in the center of the island and is 1.2 km from the port , Mersini , which is considered one of the best shelters small boats in the Aegean. The second settlement on the island, Firostefani is 2.5 km from the town . The highest peak of the island is the Mill with altitude 133 meters.

In ancient times the island had suffered many disasters from pirate raids.
